Last night, we got to the theater early as we knew that the movie was sold out. While waiting for the movie to start, we started to talk to the couple seated next to us. It went a little bit like this -
Man sitting next to Mr. Running Knitter: "So, do you guys run? Have you run any marathons?"
Mr. Running Knitter: "Yes, I've run a couple of marathons. How about you?"
Man replies: "I just ran my 99th marathon, and I'm going for my 100th in May."
Turns out that the couple sitting next to us was Bill Nielsen and his wife Linda. They were in town for Bill's 99th marathon - The Lost Dutchman Marathon. When I told him that I just started to seriously get into running, he said the most important thing about running is that you have to have fun with it, and if you don't have fun with it, it just turns into a regular job, and you won't enjoy it. He said that he has run 40,000 miles over the years, or at least that's what he has logged. He's probably run many more miles than that. He is very down to earth and very modest about his achievements.
As expected, Spirit of the Marathon, was an awesome movie. I love that they profiled all types of runners - different ages, different speeds, men, women, and even an elite runner. At the end of the credits, there was one statement that stuck out at me: "In the time it has taken to view this movie, the elite runners will have reached mile 20 of the marathon". WOW! I would highly recommend buying or renting the DVD when it comes out. Even if you are not a runner, you are sure to be inspired by it.
This morning was boot camp class and another workout focused on arms. It was a chilly 49 degrees so I had on my butterfly hat. My instructor asked "Did you knit that hat? It's so gorgeous!" I smiled and told her yes. She then asked if I sold them, and I said no, but I will knit one for her. She's helped me get into shape and loose all that weight, so I think I can knit a hat for her.
Tomorrow is knitting with the gals, and will be a rest day for me. Sunday I will probably go for a 3 or 4 mile run. Valley of the Sun Relay is coming up. Have a great weekend everyone!

Boot camp in 49 degree weather! Who's a wonderwoman now!!!! Way to go! Sunday is my rest day this week-and I'm really looking forward to it!!!
southaby girl
I want to see the movie too! I was so bummed when I heard it wouldn't be showing in my town. I'll just have to wait and Netflix it :)
I'll have to buy that DVD when it comes out! I'd love to see it, and of course it's not going to play here on base! The marathon they run is the Chicago marathon, right? That was the 1st marathon I ever saw (my high school cross country team got to go work a water stop!) and the 1st marathon I ever ran (and best so far!)
How great to get to sit next to someone like that!!! I loved the movie too....it gives me the crazy notion that I might want to attempt a full marathon someday :P
I told Lisa (Javamom) about you on our run this morning.....and we have a 6 miler planned for next Saturday.....you interested?
Running Knitter-do the 6 mile run next weekend!!!! Do it!!!!
I really liked the running skirt-it was much nicer than running in a pair of shorts-I did get a bit of chafing-but it was way more comfortable! They have different versions-some have the shorts underneath, some have the compression shorts. i might get a skirt that has the compression shorts just to check out the difference.
You know no matter how much I complain about a bad run or whatever, I always feel better having gone out and gotten some exercise! It's even worse when I don't do anything! My mother says I turn into a right B***CH....I guess running is a good thing to be addicted too!!
You got out there! Ultimately that is all that matters.
Man, I'd fix you up with my husband if I wasn't already married to him--he runs & knits, too. Great blog!
