The day started VERY early. We decided to carpool, which meant meeting at 4:30 AM to be at the runners parking lot shortly after 5. The buses started moving at 5:30 and the race started at 7. This basically meant that I had to get up at 3:30 to eat something and get geared up. I'm often in awe of the things we runners do for our sport.
Before boarding the bus, I was able to meet up with Java Mom and Pokey who are just as sweet and funny in person as they are on their blogs! They rocked yesterday and ran the half like pros. Congrats again ladies! Here I am with them before the race:
Karen, Lisa, and me
So off we went to our relay points. Maggie took the first leg, I ran the second, Lisa ran the third, and Tracy ran the fourth.
It wasn't long before the elite runners went by at the first relay point. Before long, I saw Maggie running up the hill (those stupid hills!) She handed me the baton and off I went. Did I mention I chose to run the leg that starts on a hill? I think I thought I would just take one for the team. Oh well. I forgot the garmin in the car, (blame lack of sleep) so I have no idea what my splits were, but I think my total time was around 38 minutes, which averages out to 12:25 per mile. Again, that's much faster than my training runs, so I must be doing something right.
My leg of the relay was a very scenic run. Here are some pics:

We finished in 2:24 (yahoo!) and had a lot of fun, and that's the most important part of running for me - enjoying it. Thank you Speedy Knitters!

GREAT JOB!!
Speedy Knitters -- cute name.
We do a lot of crazy things all to RUN? The running part is crazy enough & getting up so early is just insanity, but I guess the two cancel each other out....
My 1/2 marathon training group ended back in January and I actually MISS getting up insanely early on Saturday (5:30 am) to run with the group - and I'm SO not a morning person.
Not sure if I could do 3:30 -- think I'd have to just stay up all night and hit that from the back side.
Bummer you left the Garmin in the car, but you rocked on time -- congratulations!!
Where's the BLING?
You got medals, right? It's all about the medals!!
Congrats on the run!
Great job! It was so nice to meet you! Congratulations on your team finish!
Holy smokes! You guys are awesome!
Congrats!!! :)
Nice medal (I looked at the other post first)
Oh cool! A relay sounds fun. Nice work team!!
I'm jealous that you got meet Java and Pokey. They seem like so much fun!
Take care!
My brother just did this in Arizona. I wish I had enough skill for it! Some day though... and sooner than later :-)
Good job! You should be soo proud of yourself! That is awesome!
I love the name of your running group!! And what a beautiful run!!! It's always nice when you have beautiful things to look at especially when you've gotten up at 3:30!!!! It's still hard no matter what! But think of all the things you accomplished before anyone else was up!!
Southbay girl
What fun! I've never done a relay (well, not since high school track anyway). I think the Garmin in the car might've worked out in your favor...I find mine very distracting when I'm doing a "race"- for the marathon, I even covered up the pace part with a sticker.
PS- lots of cute hats you've been making lately!
Way to go Running Knitter!
Awesome job!!!!
I'm so glad we got to meet - even for a few short minutes!
We'll run together SOON!
CONGRATS on the bling! (and it's ALWAYS about the bling, LOL! :)
