I did something to my foot during last weekend's long run. The pain started Sunday night and though it's gotten much better, it's still there. Plantar Fasciitis. So I took 4 days off from running, and have been icing it, and stretching it, and icing it some more. I did manage to get in a mile and a half today on the treadmill, but then my foot started to bother me again so I listened to my body and called it a day.
No long run for me this weekend. Thankfully it's early enough in my training that I can still play around with the mileage. I'm following Mizfit's lead on being positive. Not running for a few days is MUCH BETTER than not being able to run for who knows how long, right?
I was going to get new running shoes, as mine are getting up there in mileage, but I'm thinking I wouldn't really be able to try them out properly until my foot is back to 100%. Any thoughts on this from my running friends?
In better news, I finished day 3 today of the push up challenge. I did a total of 78 push ups today. How are you doing with the push up challenge?
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. Mary Gee, Viv, Southbay Girl, RBR- I'll be thinking of you! I know you will ROCK! :)

i think i need new running shoes too. maybe i'll go look tomorrow.
push-up challenge...uh...I looked at it and became afraid. very afraid.
gonna' see if the rest of you survive before i even consider tackling that one!
Haha, I hadn't read your blog for the week before I e-mailed you about the pushup challenege - crazy! I haven't ever tried full pushups and I'm totally on the first level. My initial test was 2 pushups~! So I did 12 on my day one. I maxed at 4 hehe. 78 PUSHUPS IN ONE DAY. I'm super impressed. You are awesome woman.
So sorry about your foot. Is there a pool nearby you can use for a few weeks? Look up aqua running. Plantar fascitis doesn't heal quickly and get aggravated very easily. I'd cross train and aqua run :)
Sorry about the foot. I've had a variety of foot problems myself. Recently, I've been running in shoes that are very flexible (racing shoes, actually!), and they are easier on my arches even though they have less overall support.
For me, yoga also keeps the feet and ankles strong and loose. I've also cut down on injuries by following the advice in "Chi Running" by Danny Dryer. It seems the more I relax and stay aware of form, the more efficient and injury-free I become.
Good luck. Sounds like you're doing the right thing by resting.
Good luck with the healing process... hopefully you can try aqua running or something that won't stress your foot as much.
Sorry to hear you've hurt your foot! You are so smart though to take time off immediately rather than damage it more. I had a coach recently wax rhapsodic about aqua jogging, but other than that I can only offer healing thoughts from afar!
Man, 78? Wow. Today is my day 3 and I will be happy if I can crank out 20.
The only real cure for PF is rest, so be sure you give yourself adequate time off.
I hope your foot gets better soon! Good idea to rest- you'll be back to the races in no time:)
You are a Pushup Wonder Woman! I tried to do a few for kicks this morning in preparation for the challenge next week and 2 was plenty for me! :)
Take care of that foot. We don't need you sidelined. I need to check out the push-up challenge since I love me some push-ups.
Ok first of all I'm very impressed with your pushup numbers!!! I'm such a woose when it comes to pushups! I love planks though!!
As for your foot-REST!!!!!! that is the key! If it is Plantar Fasciitis it might take a bit longer to heal. Don't run on it-rest and you may want to have it checked out by a doctor! You can get all kinds of socks that stretch your foot.It might be a blessing in disguise considering how brutally hot it's been!!!
Aqua jogging would be a great idea! Or an elliptical-I don't know if it would bother your foot but it's worth a try.
You've got loads of time!!! Injuries are just a part of this wonderful running world we love!!!
and you'll be SO HEALED and READY when youre back at it.
I know this is rough....
Miz.
Are you serious?!? 78?!?! OMG!! That's insane! I can only do 2 (no joke LOL)
Sorry about the PF. I do not know too much about that. I just hope it does get better for you very soon. Think positive...
Woohooo on the push up challenge that is a bunch of push ups! I have no doubt your 100 will be in reach.
Thanks for the shoutout sweetie!
checking back to see how youre feeling?
maybe do more weights (or in your case WAITS :)) until it heals?
MizFit
Wow on 78 pushups!!! I can't even really do them properly. I am hoping with adding in my chest routine and sticking to my yoga stuff I will build the strength to start them.
Sorry about your foot. I hope it isn't something that takes too long to heal.
Hi, Found your blog via Sagan's.
I am a runner too and am currently training for the St. George Marathon.
As far as your foot- I would cross train until it's better. Cycling and swimming are great alternatives. I hurt my knees recently because of inappropriate/ZERO padding in the shoes.
Great job with the push ups...speaking of feet I need new shoes.
I hope your foot is better!!!
I am starting day 1 of the challenge today!
Plantar Fasciitis, I suffered for a long time with this, really painful! I talked with MD's and chiropractors to no avail. Then I read an article in Runner's Magazine about ART (http://www.activerelease.com/) and I went to the website to find someone local to help me. I found the best guy and have never stopped going to him. He had me running after the first treatment, although it was a longish and painfulish treatment, I have not had a single problem since!!!! Now I run in orthotics. It's worth at least looking into! Get better soon! I just ran up Mt Washington, what a great sense of accomplishment! Can't wait till next year.
One more thing, I noticed in reading the comments the people mentioned cross training, excellent ideas! I would recomment squats and plyomentrics to keep those legs strong! Keep up the good work on those push ups girl, you rock!!!!!
Get the new shoes - pronto! Get fitted for good shoes and they will help with the PF. I had it, it was miserable. My doc told me to roll my foot on a tennis ball, and if I could stand it, a golf ball. Stretches are uber important. But I think the shoes are THE most imortant. Oh, and don't go barefoot - not even in your own house.
How's that for a bunch of unsolicited advice?
checking in.
hows the foot healing?
MizFit
Hope your foot recovers soon so you can get back out there.
I've taken a gander at that push-up challenge. I can't even do two in a row so I'm thinking it will be a good thing for me to work on. It's now on my to do list. :)
Just wondering how you are doing.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Having an injury and slowing down and then getting back on track is so hard for me. Way to have perspective and wait it out!
If it were me, I would wait to get shoes. If you are standing/walking/running differently, it would be hard to tell if the shoe is fitting properly.
I started the push up challenge on the middle level and I think it was too hard. So I went back and did week 1 again like it was recommended and it is going much better. 78 is freaking impressive!
Ok, I think I'm going to try the challenge, but 78 boy-style push-ups??? Very impressive!
How is the foot doing?
Good job on the pushups. I'm almost done with week one. As for the PF. I have dealt with this in the past. A couple of things that can be causing it. Pronation is the most likely. The wrong shoes could be another. You need a neutral foot. One thing to help clear it up is to massage with a tennis ball. Another thing is to make an ice boot by taking a soft ice pack, wrapping it around the heel, and putting a sock over it. It helps target the area better. Good luck with it!
maybe you can call the TYPING RACES your cardio!
MizFit
Look into the new shoes now, maybe that is part of the problem.
78 pushups....yikes girl, you are out of control!!! LOL....
How are you feeling? How's the foot?
That sucks about your foot problems. Hopefully you're feeling a little better by now!
78 pushups in one day! Rock on!!! :)

I order my shoes all the time-the joy of wearing a size 12!!! ha ha!
I hope your foot starts feeling better. As the queen of minor setbacks during my half marathon training - rest is key.
New shoes were beneficial to me too especially with the shin issue. Good luck!
Oh dear, you've been gone awhile. I hope it isn't getting worse. Sending some healing vibes.

(those are the vibes!) :D
GAHHHH PLANTAR FASCIITIS! *shakes fist*
I totally empathize. =D
